What you have to do if you have decided to become self-employed

You have already passed the bar exam. Congratulations!

The exciting time is coming when you will have to make decisions that will shape your future. From now on, Mutualidad will accompany you on this journey. You can count on us if you need guidance, information or if you have any questions.

Here are the steps to follow.

Go to your bar association

They will inform you about the options for practising as a self-employed lawyer. If you are going to practise, you must be registered. This is a compulsory procedure. You will have to choose a social welfare option. It's time to make an important decision for your professional future!

In order for the process to go more smoothly, it is recommended that you approach the Association with a clear decision.

Do you have questions?

In Mutualidad de la Abogacía, as it is an individually funded system, the contributions you make are yours. From the minimum stipulated by law, you can tailor your savings plan and your coverage according to your needs and possibilities.

You will receive regular updates on the status of your savings, and you can always consult this information and carry out other procedures in your private member’s area.

In the event of your death, the capital contributed will be collected by your beneficiaries. Moreover, if you suspend your contributions, you will still receive the money you have paid in when you reach retirement age without having to have a minimum number of years of contributions.

When you retire, you can draw your pension and continue to work.

We are flexible. If you opt for el Plan Alternativo Autónomo from Mutualidad de la abogacía for self-employed practice and, in the future, your circumstances change, we adapt and your savings remain until retirement.

You are covered for death, permanent disability, temporary professional disability and, voluntarily, dependency.
